Special vehicles are among the developments bound to draw a crowd at bauma (24th-30th October 2022) in Munich. It is, above all, the highly specialised heavy transporters that captivate visitors' - sometimes they are designed to lift liquid steel or iron ore, sometimes they bring huge construction or mining vehicles to sites, or they mill and shred road surfaces using their own axles. Most of them move on a running gear made by BPW.

Even without visiting BPW's stand (Outdoor area North, booth 827/9), visitors to BAUMA will meet BPW solutions at every turn. The family-owned company (6,800 employees in the BPW Group, 1.37 billion euros in consolidated sales in 2020) has been able to solidify its position as the preferred partner of manufacturers of special vehicles. The spectrum of the "Customised Solutions" business area ranges from solutions for compact municipal horticultural transporters to heavy industry and the mining and quarrying sector.

The EU Falsified Medicines Directive will enter into force on February 9, 2019. Among other things, it stipulates that prescription drugs may only be marketed in a package with a serial number and tamper-evident closure. The serial numbers are stored in a central IT database. By scanning the packaging after production, the manufactured units are registered in the system. The serialized and thus clearly identifiable goods must be re-checked and validated at the point of sale (e.g. pharmacy) by scanning the data matrix printed on the packaging before they can be handed over to the end customer. However, it is not clear what must happen if the serialized goods are damaged, contaminated, sabotaged or stolen in transit from production via wholesale to the point of sale.

The central question is to what extent logistics service providers (together with their shippers) must also develop concepts here - in addition to GDP. How can security technology and surveillance prevent damage or theft? Which security technology is available - on the vehicle side, through IT & telematics (geofencing, alarm systems) etc. and must this technology be GDP-qualified? Worst Case: What happens to the damaged or stolen goods? Are there emergency plans and instructions for the freight forwarder? How do the communication channels work? Do authorities have to be involved? Who bears the liability risks? etc. These questions are to be clarified in a panel discussion in which representatives of the entire pharmaceutical logistics supply chain will participate.
