New 7t swing axle from BPW makes low-loaders even more efficient

  • Completely new development offers maximum reliability and resilience
  • Maintenance-friendly design reduces service life and operating costs
  • Compact dimensions create more design freedom for vehicle manufacturers
  • Industry-unique warranty of 800,000 kilometres or six years for on-road use and 120,000 kilometres or one year for off-road use

Wiehl, 04.12.2025 --- With the new 7t swing axle for low-loaders, BPW is setting new standards for reliability, load capacity and efficiency – and at an extremely competitive market price. The completely redeveloped axle has been available since December 1, 2025. Designed for use in heavy-duty low-loaders, semi-trailers or semi-low-loaders the swing axle enables the safe transport of particularly heavy or bulky goods such as construction and mining machinery, large transformers, industrial plants and components of the wind power industry, for example for rotor blades, tower segments or generators. As a highlight, BPW offers a warranty of 800,000 kilometers or six years in on-road operation, which creates maximum planning security, reduces operating costs and at the same time impressively underlines the company's high quality standards.

Robustness and reliability were the top priorities in the development of the new 7-tonne swing axle. Background: Trailers for special transports are usually very expensive and often in use for 15 to 20 years. The transported products are often extremely expensive goods and transporting them usually requires a special permit. An unexpected failure in such heavy transports is associated with high costs and effort. Therefore, operational safety has the highest priority. With the 800,000-kilometres guarantee for use on paved roads – twenty times the circumference of the earth at the equator – BPW is making a clear statement about the reliability of its new swing axle. In off-road operation, the warranty is 120,000 kilometres or one year.

Compact installation space, maintenance-friendly design

The 7-tonne swing axle combines high load capacity with compact dimensions and low dead weight. This creates more design freedom for low-loader vehicle manufacturers. The use of state-of-the-art large-scale production technology also achieves a weight saving of up to 5 kilograms per axle compared to other solutions on the market and around 24 kilograms compared to the previous model. This strengthens the payload reserves and improves profitability.

The maintenance-friendly design also reduces operating costs: the BPW ECO Drum drum brake with a large pad volume, which has proven itself millions of times, is used in the 7-tonne swing axle. The tried-and-tested C-clamp technology simplifies service, and the wheel bearing is maintenance-free. The 7-tonne swing axle impresses with its high flexibility in use. Depending on national registration regulations, it can be used as a 6-tonne axle with 17.5-inch single tyres as well as a 7-tonne axle with 19.5-inch single tyres. This corresponds to a line axle load of 12 or 14 tonnes and enables optimum adaptation to different requirements in the transport sector.

Tailor-made product for a growing market segment
With the new 7-tonne swing axle, BPW is strengthening its presence in a fast-growing market segment: In the wake of the energy transition, the renovation backlog on bridges and motorways, rising volumes in the plant and raw materials business as well as cost pressure in construction and logistics demand for low-loaders is currently growing strongly. More and more projects require the safe transport of large, heavy and sensitive components – from wind turbine blades and tower segments to prefabricated bridge sections, excavators and cranes.

Operators expect high availability, predictable costs and long service life. Vehicle manufacturers need compact, lightweight and modular axle solutions that minimise installation space and increase payload. Swing axles are the key element in this: independently guided wheels on the swing axle individually swing up and down with a large displacement, thus mastering uneven terrain and ensuring optimum ground contact and load balancing. With its reliability, resilience and ease of maintenance, the new swing axle from BPW makes an important contribution to making low-loader fleets scalable, economical and reliable for growing transport requirements.
