BPW Bergische Achsen KG is announcing its partnership with BMW i for an electric drive system for commercial vehicles. BPW will use battery technology from BMW i for its particularly powerful drive axle, which is designed for heavy vans and lorries with a gross weight of up to 7.5 tonnes. A drive concept for lorries with a gross weight of 26 tonnes is under development.
The BPW Innovation Lab is launching the innovative CargoTracer freight tracking system at the IAA with an attractive trial offer: shippers will be able to test BPW CargoTracer prototypes for three months at a special introductory price. But it is not only freight that can now be digitally networked.

Is digitisation leaving small and medium-sized hauliers behind? The fact is that around 85% of trailers on the market have no telematics and are missing a digital connection – faxes, paper trails and constant calls to drivers and dispatchers are still part and parcel of day-to-day work, even in 2018. In the Bavarian city of Vilshofen, the vehicle manufacturer Paul Nutzfahrzeuge is currently preparing for the standard conversion of municipal commercial vehicles on the production line to turn them into electric vehicles. The city of Wiehl is BPW's home town. It was there that Mayor Ulrich Stücker accepted the first Mercedes Benz Vario equipped with BPW’s electric motor axle eTransport.
Transport damages caused by poorly-secured freight are routine in the transport business; serious accidents and damages to the load frequently occur due to rolling and tipping truck trailers. BPW is now tackling one of the main causes with intelligent cargo restraints: the iGurt checks and documents the tension of the lashing strap and promises massive savings.

With upLink a smartphone or tablet is all that is needed to find out the spare parts data for the truck and even the trailer: the BPW Aftermarket Group is now offering commercial vehicle workshops a mobile web app that enables them to identify and order spare parts in seconds, without being restricted to a specific manufacturer.
No other type of vehicle is as highly individual as the trailer – every transport task requires a specific running gear. BPW, one of the market leaders for complete running gear systems for truck-trailers and semi-trailers, has now considerably simplified the configuration of running gears: by utilising a "digital DNA" for all components, running gears can be configured and ordered online.
As part of an innovation cooperation, the globally operating logistics service provider, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, and one of the world’s largest manufacturer of trailer running gears, BPW Bergische Achsen KG, are starting a joint practical trial: they are bringing the eTransport, an electric motor axle recently developed by BPW, onto the roads.
The process of ordering spare parts online may be quick in the spare parts business, but simply picking them off the shelf is even quicker: the BPW Aftermarket Group is offering commercial vehicle garages a mobile spare parts warehouse with up to 2,000 parts directly on site. The required parts are simply taken out and the billing and reordering processes are completely automatic.
Idem telematics provides its customers in the pharmaceutical industry with a new service: in collaboration with the European Institute for Pharma Logistics GmbH (EIPL), telematics solutions for temperature-controlled transports can now be qualified in order to meet the requirements of Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
