The BPW Group is instrumental in driving forward the digital transformation in transport industry

Digitalisation: BPW takes the lead in automotive and commercial vehicle suppliers - Transport industry ahead of transformation

The transport and logistics industry is on the brink of a radical transformation. The surprise: It is not the towing vehicle but the trailer that is driving the digital transformation – from vehicle construction to transport management to maintenance. BPW, a family enterprise from North-Rhine Westphalia, which is strengthening its lead as "Digital Champion" is providing the key technologies.

Getting involved rather than just being present: BPW apprentices discussed the situation of the local playgrounds in the council hall at the Wiehl town hall.

VerkehrsRundschau award for BPW’s Political Education training programme

At BPW, apprentices learn far more than just a profession – for example, they also organise political discussion groups and hold their own meetings in Wiehl’s town hall. This is all thanks to the company’s own Political Education programme. In honour of this extraordinary commitment, BPW has now been awarded the VerkehrsRundschau award in the ‘Apprenticeships and Further Training’ category.

Climate and cost-efficient trailers are now instantly recognisable: BPW AirSave wins the European Transport Prize for Sustainability

All truck drawbar trailers look the same to the average consumer. But now even the layman can identify which trailer is safe, climate-friendly and cost-saving, as with just a glance at the wheel hubs you can immediately recognise whether the BPW AirSave system has been installed. It has now been awarded the highest European sustainability award in the transport industry.

Digital independence for forwarders: idem telematics wins German Telematics Award

Europe's leading trailer telematics system is also the best. This is the verdict given by the German Telematics Award panel of experts, one which is bestowed once every two years: idem telematics successfully relies on the principle of system openness in order to network practically everything in transport – including competing third-party systems. That's why forwarders also give top marks.

From setting the tone to serial innovation: why Ranga Yogeshwar named BPW one of Germany’s top 100 mid-sized companies

Of all German prizes for innovation, the ‘Top 100’ award plays a unique role: it’s the only competition to honour mid-sized businesses for their innovation management. BPW head of development Dr Markus Kliffken explains why he’d like to give the prize awarded by science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar straight back to the commercial vehicle specialists’ customers.

BPW receives German Innovation Awards for digital cargo securing and freight tracking – two key technologies for autonomous transport

BPW is giving cargo a voice using sensors and digital connectivity – the iGurt indicates whether it is correctly secured in the drawbar trailer during the journey, while the CargoTracer connects it directly with senders' and recipients' merchandise management systems. And these solutions already contain key technologies required for autonomous transport.

How customers become innovation partners: WirtschaftsWoche recognizes BPW’s co-innovation with Innovative Management Partner (IMP)

Improperly secured cargo is frequently the cause of wobbling and tipping lorries on the road – and accidents and cargo damage cost transport companies millions every year. In future, an innovative, intelligent cargo securing system from BPW will prevent this from happening. Yet the development methodology used is also a remarkable aspect of this innovation.

Safer loading, more flexible manoeuvres: BPW receives two ‘Trailer Innovation 2019’ awards

BPW can once again celebrate its win of an important innovation prize – twice over. A jury of 16 international trade journalists and experts from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) selected two innovations from BPW for the ‘Trailer Innovation 2019’ award.
